An Open Letter to Our Nation’s Leadership
I am Janet Contreras, a concerned, home-grown American citizen. I am 53, and I have been a registered Democrat all of my adult life. Before the last Presidential election, I registered Republican because I no longer feel the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. I now no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me.
There must be someone, please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me you are there and are willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please do it now.
You might ask yourselves what my views and issues are that I would feel so horribly disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me? These are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation:
* Illegal Immigration—I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S. I am not a racist. This not to be confused with legal immigration.
* TARP Bill—I want it repealed and no further funding supplied to it. We told you "NO!" but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze! Repeal!
* Czars—I want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the Czars. No more Czars. Government officials answer to the process not the President. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.
* Cap & Trade—the debate on global warming is NOT over, there IS more to say.
* Universal Health Care—I will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don't you dare pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down!
* Growing Government Control—I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Please mind your own business; you have enough to do with your REAL obligations. Let's start there.
* ACORN—I do not want ACORN or its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them on every real estate deal that closes. Stop all funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audit and investigation. I do not trust them with the taking of the census or with taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before the taxpayers get any further involved with them. It walks like a duck and talks like a duck—hello… stop protecting political buddies. You work for the people. Investigate.
* Redistribution of Wealth—No. If I work for it, it is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth I support. I never got a job from a poor person. Why do want me to hate my employers? What do your have against shareholders making a profit?
* Charitable Contributions—although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities where we know our needs best and can use local talent and resources. Butt out, please. We want to do this ourselves.
* Corporate Bail Outs—knock it off! Sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we will be better off just getting to it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful, like ripping off a band aid. We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us a chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.
* Transparency and Accountability—how about it? No really, let's have it. Let's say we give the "buzz" words a rest and have some straight, honest talk. Please stop trying to manipulate and appease me with cleaver wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.
* Unprecedented Quick Spending—stop it, now. Take a breath. Listen to "The People."
Let's just slow down and get some more input from some "non-politicians" on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law.
I am not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant nor a violent person. I am a mother and grandmother. I am a working woman. I am busy, busy, busy and tired, tired, tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawns and wash our cars on weekends, and be responsible, contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same, all the while living in the home of the free and land of the brave.
I entrusted you with upholding our Constitution and believed in the checks and balances to keep you from getting too far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think that I find humor in hiring a speed reader to unintelligibly ramble through a bill you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not! It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face! I am not laughing—the arrogance!
Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it, but you expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children? We did not want that TARP bill. We said "NO!" We would repeal it if we could. I am not sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all the recent spending. From my perspective, it seems that you have all gone insane.
I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back!
You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington.

Letter to Glenn
Saturday, November 21, 2009 and Oct 8th, 1958..what do they have in common. I sit with my twin 8 year old grandsons , Cater and Cole this Saturday to hear the TV news TV discuss the historic vote of the US Senate on healthcare. At the same time, I toggle back and forth to the Major League Baseball coverage of the 1958 game 5 of the World Series of the Yankees and the Dodgers. The Don Larson perfect game.
I reflect on a simpler time in our lives, and reflect that at the 8 years old I watched the 5th game with my father and brothers, growing up in New Jersey , a diehard Dodgers fan and loving Ebbotts Field and the subway series. I chatted with my grandkids about the importance of taking a trip down memory lane once and awhile, and thought about what my grandchildren 30 years from now what will reflect to their grandchildren about the US senate vote. What will they reflect about our freedoms, national debt, war, our leaders, our values, family, capitalism.
As a lover of History, and a student of history, I frequently think about where will this great country of ours be 10, 20 , 30 years from now. What impact decisions made this day bring a better life for Americans ? I reflect on simpler times when our country came together to fight for freedom, liberty, and equal rights for all Americans..we have come a long way since the 1958 World Series Don Larsen perfect game….watching the game, I realize that if Duke Snyder’s foul ball was one foot left, or…

I agree and believe what you report. I wonder why the politicians do not hear what the people are saying? I cannot believe the current elections are honest, something is wrong. Otherwise these politicians would be fearful for their jobs. I would be more than willing to do something to help stop the spending and corruption in the White House. I, however, being a hard working loyal American have limited time and resources, and it seems what a voter does, eg, vote, write to the politicians, keep up to date on the issues, still, nothing changes in the White House. What elsa can an individual do to help bring down this awful administration? I do not want to see America go down. Please, tell us what to do and I will, along with millions of other Americans, follow the guidance. We need guidance as what we can do to make a difference, and it is not going to be too soon. I want to help. I know our country and the constitution is in grave danger.

Tonight, Mr. Glen Beck made a very interesting point. Did we not learn the lessons of our grandparents who lived through the great depression? That is true. We learned what happens when a president like Herbert Hoover does absolutely nothing and allows wall street to fall and become known as the crash of 1929!
If the thought that the purpose of government is to sit back and be passive, have no involvement with the severity of problems we face today not invest anything into it’s own people to improve the conditions that are creating poverty in this country then we haven’t learned the lessons of the greatest generation.

I whole heartedly agree with the letter. I am so fed up with all our politians. I also resigned this year from the Democratic party and became an independent.
Our lives are hanging on the balance dependent on some idiot in Washington who comes up with a new policy that will not work and costs us more tax dollars.
I am a senior who is still active and working, otherwise, I would not be able to pay my RE taxes.
Let us all rise against these phonies and frauds and clean house completely.

You are so right on..I have lived 86 years…thru the first depression (the ‘big one ‘29), and various wars, including the “great one” (WW II), and up to the present time the country has been united for the USA.. but never before have I seen our leaders so out of touch and ‘caring less’ about the welfare of our country and its citizens…they only seem concerned for their own welfare……in my humble opinion our country has lost our standing as ‘the great nation of liberty and justice for all’ and the battle is in high gear to destroy our Christian heritage along with our position in the world.

Glen, my husband, my mother, myself, my 4 children aged 13-20 are all huge Glen Beck Supporters. We are so thankful to Fox news and all of the people who are putting their well-being on the line to stand on the principles our country was founded on. We are seeing the America that our fathers and grandfathers fought for come undone so rapidly. I literally get sick of all the Obama worshippers which i by no means feel is the majority. Universal Health Care: Glenn, you have adrressed the health care issue well except for the fact of the veterans of of our county. We have only limited resources to help with out health care. Tricare covers me and also Medicare A and B, but my family is only covered by Tricare basic, we can’t afford Tricare prime for them which means we have to pay a lot of of out of pocket expenses for thier health care. My wife has been sick on and off for the last couple of years, which has put a burden on our finances. If they plan to take this away from them, I really don’t know what we will do. There is no dental plan for them and they cannot be seen in a VA facility. We really do appreciate all you do and for not backing down to this alleged democracy we have become. It has become more of a joke than anything else. Seems Obama is like a little kid who has a tantrum if he doesn’t get his way about things..

Gken first off get well soon. You are missed. I too am totaly frustrated and angry at the lack of judgement in Washington. It is my feeling that anyone running for any public office should be required to take a test on our beloved constitution. I doubt there are very many that would pass. I come from a life long democrat home and was a registered democrat until mid way thru the Clinton term. I then became a Non Affilated Voter. I am deeply disturbed at the massive intrusion by our government in our daily lives. We Talk about putting people back to work. Here in Oregon, our Democrat Govenor used the Free money from Washington to hire more state workers. PERMANENT BUREAUCRATS, Then put a 1% tax on all insurance premiums to include more people in the state run health plan. Just a precurser on things to come. I have no problem with the current healthcare bill in any form it may finally take provided that all politicians are required to give up their health care package for the one they want us to have. While we’re at it wouldn’t it be fair for them to give up their ‘platinum parachute’ retirement package in exchange for good old social security. ‘What’s good for goose is good for ganger’.
If this was a mandate by the people it would serve many good purposes: First, politicians would abdicate their offices for the private sector, leaving the office open for we the people. Second, it would save a tremendous amount of taxpayer money which could be better used elsewhere. Third, it would be a measured form of justice and equality for those who thought that they were above ‘we the people’.
Why should ‘we the people’ demand or have to mandate that our elected officials protect and defend the constitution when they have already sworn to do so, yet they don’t. Isn’t this breach of contract? Isn’t this treason?
The constitution clearly states the when our government fails to adhere to the stated requirements ‘we the people’ have an obligation to reconstruct said government to return to the inherent principles enshrined in the constitution.
Given the utter calamity we find ourselves in these days due solely to a malignant form of politics, I prefer the latter as a rigorous solution.

Glynn, I was informed that starting the first of this year (2009) that cell phones was given to low income families with 70 free minutes a month!! It’s called the Obama phones. Or at least that is what the person said he called it.

Glen: While I agree and have agreed with your position, I am perplexed because we have little ability to make the necessary changes in a timely fashion. Since this is a republic, we must rely on the efficacy of the voting process. I believe it is rigged. I live in Oregon and my pleas for change are ignored by my liberal Senators and Representative. We can yell all we want, but without a true effective signal that Americans are fed-up with this Administration and the congress, your points and warnings are meaningless. We need terms limits, how do we accomplish this? How do we send a clear message to Congress and the Administration? Glen, I would like to comment on your great show. I’ve only just in the last 3 weeks have watched your show. I so very much regret not seeing your every show. My husband and I watch Foxnews at least 6 hours a day. It seems like everything you say are expressing my feelings and thoughts and you are doing a great job. Don’t stop, never give up. Thank you for giving all of us the information we would not get from anyone else, including O’Riley, and Hannity (although he does give us some, but will not go as indepth as you do. Sometimes I fear for you and sometimes I feel sorry for you as you must feel alone at times. I would like for Fox to know how much we appreciate you being allowed to continue even though some are stopping their advertisements. While listening to comments today, I HEARD, “MY PEOPLE”. Please let our President know, we are not HIS people. We are , “THE PEOPLE”. We are the “Government”. Though the Government is not listening, as a Government of the people, by the people and for the people, do not think because you have Nancy Polosi, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden that you rule. NOT.
I pay taxes, watch over my grandchildren and their welfare and read the books they are being taught from and speak to the teachers who provide the tools for their education. The history of the U.S. does not tell me to become a Socialist. It never speaks of Socialism as being the FREE. My forefathers, my grandfathers and my Dad have fought for this United States of America which is quickly becoming something that I did not growup in and have been proud to be an American in my entire adult life. What is it with the people? We are waking up. I do not support the Health care bill. I do not support the Democrats or the Republicans for that matter if they cannot move us back to being on top. We will be a third world country if they do not STOP SPENDING.
One other note: DO NOT INDOCTRINIZE my grandchildren. Let them make up their minds. Keep Politics out of school and you will not have to go to longer school sessions or days. Give us a break!
By the way, Noble Peace Prize, come on there is not peace yet and will not be, you know it and I do too.
